This is a land of mountains, lakes and waterfalls, rocky coastlines, golden sunsets over the sea, thatched cottages, welcoming villages, and verdant pastures dotted with little Connemara ponies.
The Clifden Station House Hotel, in the heart of Connemara, is set around the old Clifden Railway Station. The hotel is in the centre of Clifden town and offers 78 en-suite bedrooms all with interactive TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities and free WiFi in public areas. Hotel: Clifden Station House Hotel *** (4 nights D, B&B)
After leaving Clifden we will now be travelling towards the Twelve Pins via Ballyconneely, past Dog's Bay and onto Roundstone, where we have a comfort stop. We then proceed to the Dan O'Hara Homestead where an audio visual introduces Dan O' Hara's Story and the history of the area. The history and artefacts room has articles and displays on Connemara through the Ages and many items of historical and cultural interest. We finish back in Clifden in mid-afternoon.B, D
This morning we return north following part of the Wild Atlantic Way via Louisburgh to Westport, one of Ireland’s most beautiful towns and voted the best place in Ireland to live. The streets are lined with fine Georgian architecture and have an unusual layout on the ‘Octagon’. We return to Clifden via the inland route.B, D
After breakfast we travel to Cong where we have a guided tour of the village exploring locations of ‘The Quiet Man’, finishing with a visit to the Quiet Man Cottage Museum. This isfollowed by a two-hour Island Cruise on Lough Corrib which includes a visit to Inchagoill Island and a guided tour of St Patrick’s 5th Century Monastic site.B, D
