We start this two-centre tour by exploring Italy’s second largest lake, Lake Maggiore, which is situated in one of the most graceful parts of Europe.

We start this two-centre tour by exploring Italy’s second largest lake, Lake Maggiore, which is situated in one of the most graceful parts of Europe. We visit Zermatt, lying in the shadow of the Matterhorn, and sail along Lake Maggiore. Then we cross through to Mannheim in the west of Germany, with guided tours of two of Germany’s most beguiling cities.

 

Our four-star Italian hotel located right in the centre of Stresa overlooking the lake. All 164 en-suite rooms come with air-con, satellite TV, safe and free WiFi. There is an outdoor pool and roof terrace.

Belfast to Hull via Larne

Travel from Zeebrugge to Saarbrücken

We travel through the Vosges Mountains into Alsace, then cross into Switzerland, past Lucerne and into Italy, to our hotel in Stresa.

A day to relax and enjoy market day in Stresa.

A full day round trip on the Lake Maggiore Express railway and ferry. We board the narrow gauge train to Locarno where we have lunch and explore. A gentle cruise takes us back down Lake Maggiore to Stresa. Late dinner tonight

Day 6

Today we travel by train along a sinuous route that takes around mountains, past gorges and over the Simplon Pass to Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn in Switzerland.

Day 7

We leave Stresa and return back though Switzerland to our next hotel in the west of Germany.

After breakfast a guided introductory walking tour takes us through Mannheim, or ‘Grid-City’ its nickname comes from the checkerboard layout of its buildings.

It’s a short trip to the famous medieval city of Heidelberg for a guided tour of its ruined castle, towering above the old quarter

We catch the overnight ferry from Europoort to Hull.
